What is a club lacrosse team/program? What do they do and why should I be interested?
All club lacrosse programs offer a more advanced level of play in the offseason, focusing on advancing lacrosse skills in a competitive environment. Club lacrosse teams require a formal tryout and invitation to play. They typically operate in the Summer and Fall seasons and travel to 3 or more tournaments per season.
For high schoolers, these club teams serve an additional purpose - college recruiting. It is via these club teams that coaches are able to network with players of certain clubs who are responsible for the fostering of college/university team relationships. All club coaches are required to either have advanced playing experience and/or advanced coaching experience of a high caliber of womens lacrosse (elite high school or college). The recruiting process can start as early as 7/8th grade (informally) for girls lacrosse. These teams main focus is to grow lacrosse at an advance level - especially in the Hudson Valley!
